I need to add my wife’s name to the deed of our home. How would I go about doing so?

I understand you're looking to add your wife's name to the deed of your home. Have you already discussed this with your wife and does she agree to be added to the deed?

Yes & yes

Are there any existing mortgages or liens on the property that need to be considered when adding your wife’s name to the deed?

Yes, there is currently a mortgage

Is there anything else the Real Estate Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they'll be able to help with adding your wife's name to the deed despite the existing mortgage.

No

Since you are legally married it does not matter that there is a current mortgage on the property. You are permitted to execute and record a Quitclaim Deed wherein you are the Grantor and then both you and your spouse are the Grantees.

OK

It is best to use a local Estate Planning Attorney to prepare the Deed. I can provide you the form. What state are you located?

Texas

Harris County
