Based on your situation, there are several legal considerations and concepts in U.S. law that could potentially support your case:

The Privacy Act of 1974: This act governs the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of personally identifiable information by federal agencies. It provides individuals with the right to access and amend their records and ensures that agencies maintain accurate and relevant information.

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA): This law allows individuals to request access to federal agency records or information. It can be used to obtain documentation that might clarify whether you are on a watchlist and why.

Fourth Amendment Rights: The Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects individuals from unreasonable searches and seizures. If you believe your rights have been violated during airport screenings or other interactions, this amendment may be relevant.

Due Process Rights: Under the Fifth Amendment, individuals are entitled to due process of law. If you are on a watchlist, you may have the right to challenge your inclusion and seek an explanation or redress.

I understand how concerning it must be to feel like you're on a federal watchlist. Can you share if you have already taken any steps to address this situation?

I have only been informed via friends and family, through non-conventional means.

Hi there, thank you for your question. I’m LegalDan, and I’m already reviewing the details of your question to find the best solution for you right away. Could you share more about how this situation with the federal watchlist started?

Around the year 2000, I was in school and was chatting with another student. We were talking about deer hunting with our fathers, and rifles got brought up. I told my buddy I wish I could bring the one my dad got me to show him.

A girl whose father was police chief heard me and told staff. I was put in handcuffs and questioned. Since that day, my life has never been truly authentic.

I joined the military at age 20, and the recruiters looked at me, said I looked like a terrorist, and all laughed. There’s way more to this than I can type. I have been harassed and groomed by them for nearly 20 years.

I'm really sorry to hear about what you've been through. It sounds incredibly challenging.

Could you let me know where you're currently located? This can help me understand the legal context better.

Another thing to add: a guy I used to hang out with had a small camera at his house and showed me video footage of my two best friends at the time being questioned by federal law enforcement. That was just one incident where someone told me what was going on behind my back.

Sistersville, West Virginia.

That sounds really unsettling, and I'm sorry you've had to experience that.

Could you tell me if you've ever received any official communication or documentation regarding your status on a watchlist?

I understand how distressing this situation must be for you. Let's go through some steps you can take to address your concerns about being on a federal watchlist:

  1. Gather Information: Since you haven't received any official communication, try to gather as much information as possible from reliable sources. This could include any documentation or evidence of interactions with law enforcement or other authorities.
  2. Consult a Legal Professional: It's crucial to speak with an attorney who specializes in civil rights or federal law. They can help you understand your rights and the best course of action. They might also assist in determining if you are indeed on a watchlist and what that means for you.
  3. Request Records: You can file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to obtain records that the government might have on you. This process can be lengthy, but it may provide clarity on your situation.
  4. Consider Filing a Complaint: If you believe your rights have been violated, you might consider filing a complaint with the Department of Justice or another relevant agency. An attorney can guide you through this process.
  5. Seek Support: Consider reaching out to organizations that specialize in civil liberties. They can offer support and possibly connect you with resources or legal assistance.

Please let me know if you have further questions or need clarification on any of these steps.

I have never received information about being on a watchlist except through close friends. One of them actually showed me video footage of an FBI employee asking my close friends questions about my character.

When I walk in an airport, I am always immediately surrounded by federal employees who flash a badge and proceed to dig through my luggage.

My internet is completely different from civilians. I went to Geek Squad once to ask them why my internet was acting strange. The employee checked my phone and told me I must have accessed the dark web somehow, as his searches brought up extremely dark and disturbing content. I have never once attempted to access a “dark web.”

I have a million more examples if needed.

Let me know if you have any questions or clarifications.

How would I start the process to challenge my inclusion and seek explanation? I’ve already been told family has had to go to some secret court where they held a hearing to discuss whether I should be wiretapped.

There is no such thing as a "secret" court. You would file a Freedom of Information Act request with the FBI and have them include your name.

If there is nothing else I can help you with, I wish you the best and I was happy to be able to help you.
