[TX] When adding my spouse to my property using a quitclaim deed, am I the grantor and are both of us listed as grantees?

Solved

To add your husband (or anyone else on title), then it is you and your husband as grantees. Once recorded, you are both then title holders.

What if I filed a document already do I need to put: this document succeeds the previous document along with this? It was accepted at the courthouse but not at the  Tax Assessor location.

  • If it was recorded in the public records, it needs to be titled as a CORRECTIVE Deed. (TX Prop § 5.029)

I understand that adding your husband to your deed can be a bit confusing. Can you confirm if you are currently the sole owner of the property?

I am the sole owner.

Have you already completed any paperwork or filed any documents related to this process?

I have, and it was incorrect because I only had him as the Grantee on the 1st document filed.

Hey there! I'm Lori, an attorney with many years of experience, and I'm here to help you. I understand you're trying to add your husband to your deed using a Texas Quitclaim deed. Are you the only one on title right now?  If so, then you are the grantee.

Yes I am the only one on it currently.

The guy was really nice to let me know I need to redo the paperwork because if he moved forward with what I had, the house would only be in my husband's name.
