I received 2 DUIs in 2020 and can’t get my driver’s license back.

Have you completed all court-ordered programs?

Yes.

Have you applied for reinstatement? What happened?

Applied and was declined. They asked for approval letters from Florida and Tennessee—still not enough.

Anything else the lawyer should know?

No.

Jon

What state were the DUIs in?

One in Tennessee, one in Florida, one week apart in 2020.

Jon

What state do you live in now?

Indiana. I’ve completed and paid all probation.

Jon

Got it. I’ll put together an answer. Anything else to add?

That’s it.

Jon

Because Florida, Tennessee, and Indiana are in the Interstate Driver’s License Compact, Indiana won’t reinstate until Florida and Tennessee clear you. Florida may require FR-44 insurance and a Florida-approved DUI program; Tennessee may require its own DUI school, SR-22, and possibly an interlock. Indiana needs proper “clearance/compliance” letters from both states. If Indiana rejected what you gave them, something’s still unresolved or the documents aren’t the right type.

I did all that. Tennessee won’t issue a letter. I’ve been to the Indiana BMV four times—no help.

Jon

Then there’s a specific unresolved Tennessee issue. Call TN Dept. of Safety Reinstatement (1-866-903-7357) and ask: “What requirements are still outstanding that prevent reinstatement?” Common issues: unpaid fees, incomplete DUI program, missing interlock, or no SR-22 on file. A Tennessee lawyer can also help.

Tennessee is the only problem. They want proof of SR-22 since 2020. I had no car or license—they took my DL. I can’t prove insurance I never had.

Jon

They’re not asking for old proof; they’re requiring SR-22 now. Get a non-owner SR-22 policy; your insurer will file it with Tennessee, clearing the hold so Indiana can proceed.

Thanks.

Jon

Happy to help.
