Hello there! My daughter just turned two and will be traveling with my parents to Florida from Illinois — what documents should I send them with?

That sounds like an important trip for your daughter! Have your parents traveled with her before?

Yes, however I have been present for previous trips.

Are your parents legal guardians of your daughter, or do they have legal documentation allowing them to make decisions on her behalf?

No, they are not.

Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they'll be able to help with travel documents.

That is all, thank you Pearl, I appreciate your time and help.

Elizabeth

Welcome and thank you for using AskaLawyer. My name is Liz and I'm the attorney who will be assisting with your legal question. I know that dealing with the law can be incredibly stressful and challenging, so I’m here to help clarify and provide direction. So I can best help, do your parents have a copy of her birth certificate?

Hello there Elizabeth, yes they do indeed have a copy of her birth certificate. Should I send them with a copy or the original?

Elizabeth

You could use the copy. How long will she be traveling?

From March 27th until April 2nd.

Elizabeth

Have you issued them a temporary minor power of attorney?

No, I just would like to sign the child consent form.

Elizabeth

You could do so; that would allow them to travel without issues. I was asking about the minor Power of Attorney, in case your child needs medical care.

If you'd like to just create a consent to travel, this link could be used.

I know this can be stressful, so if there's anything I can assist with or clarify, please let me know.
