[OK] Could I be sued for money allegedly owed after leaving an informal living arrangement where I paid bills but departed early?

Yes, she could technically file, but it’s unlikely to go anywhere serious. If she did, your defense would be that there was no clear agreement (15 OK Stat § 2), you left quickly, and at most you owe the reasonable rental value for a very short stay. ((23 OK Stat § 3)  Courts don’t enforce “give me your whole paycheck” deals.

I need to know if I have proper defense against a civil suit (not an active suit).

I understand that dealing with the possibility of a civil suit can be stressful. Can you share what specific claims or issues you believe may arise in this potential suit?

Well, basically I don’t think she’s smart enough to sue me but there’s some potential there.

I went to Oklahoma to stay with this person and they said that it was a stable place. All I had to do is get a job and work and just pay the bills but after I arrive, I’m told that I have a week left and I’m gonna be kicked out and I have to give her pretty much every dollar that I earned on that paycheck. Basically, I’m gonna send her all of my money and be stranded another state so I ended up sneaking behind her back and leaving with the buddy’s dad of mine that took me home before things hit the fan.

Since then she’s apparently had two strokes. She’s claiming I owe her money now. I’m willing to pay her for my stay, but is there any way she could file suit against me?

Have you already taken any steps to prepare your defense, such as gathering evidence or consulting with anyone about the situation?

No, I’m mostly just wondering if I have proper defense. There’s no thoughts or threats of me being sued. I just like to think ahead.
