What should I put on my debt validation letter if I'm not sure the amount of the debt is correct?

Hello! I printed out the debt validation letter. Do I send it along with the original billing statement and do I check off any of the options as well at the bottom?

Hello! I printed out the debt validation letter. Do I send it along with the original billing statement and do I check off any of the options as well at the bottom?

I understand you printed out the debt validation letter. Have you received any response from the creditor yet?

I just printed it out a few minutes ago.

Are you unsure about whether to include the original billing statement with the debt validation letter and whether to check off any options at the bottom?

Yes.

Is there anything else the Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they'll be able to help with your debt validation letter.

Sorry.

Hello! Legal Eagle here. I'm reviewing your issue in detail. Have you had any previous communication with the creditor regarding this debt before printing the validation letter?

No I have not. I only received the billing statement and just recently printed out the debt validation letter.

Legal Eagle

Ok thanks! Just a few more questions. What specific options are you considering checking off at the bottom of the debt validation letter?

It asks how I want to respond at the bottom. "Do you want to dispute the debt because I think:

  1. This is not my debt,

  2. The amount is wrong,

  3. Other (please describe on reverse or attach additional information)."

Another option is: "I want you to send me the name and address of the original creditor."

Legal Eagle

Ok got it! Which one of those are you thinking?

That is where I need your advice if possible.

Since I am attaching a debt validation letter should I opt for 3. Other?

Legal Eagle

So it depends, actually. Do you believe it's not your debt? Do you believe the debt is wrong?

I don't know if the amount is correct and am not certain.

Legal Eagle

In this case, selecting the second option, "The amount is wrong," would be best. If you're not sure that the amount of the debt is correct, then you can state the amount is wrong in your letter.

Thank you.

Legal Eagle

For sure! Were there any details I missed? Were there any concerns you still needed to be addressed?

That was all thank you.
