Solved

Before the deadline stated in the summons, you will either need to reach a settlement with the plaintiff, or you will need to file a response to the complaint with the court. Your response would need to admit or deny each allegation in the complaint, and it could also assert any defenses you might have. (Fed. R. Civ. P. 8(b)(1))

Examples of defenses include that the amount sought has already been paid or that the statute of limitations has already expired.

Hello. I received a summons last evening regarding a debt collection suit for my credit card with my bank. I need to answer in 20 days. I do not know how to do that. Could you direct me please?

I understand that receiving a summons can be very stressful. Can you tell me if you have already responded to any previous communications from the debt collector?

I called them about a year and half ago when I realized I was not able to make payments. On the summons, there is the name of an attorney who may have called me, but I thought it was a scam and deleted it, as I get loads of scam calls after turning 65. I did not talk to them and did not know it was for my card debt.

Is there anything else the consumer protection lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they'll be able to help with your debt collection suit.
