Your full legal name is not really going to be any defense to this. The name on the card or the contract with them would be the proper name, but I don't think you would get this dismissed for that reason. It is never too late to negotiate a settlement. You can and should call them before the answer is due. Most lawyers want to settle this as it is easier. (MI Comp L § 600.8410)

And even after a judgment, they have to come after you and attempt to garnish your wages and/or your bank accounts. So I would strongly recommend that you attempt to do so. (MI Comp L § 600.4011)

Generally, you have 21 days if personally served to answer the complaint. You have two choices. One is to answer and file it, and you will then have the case move forward. If it is credit card debt and you owe it, even answering it will result in a judgment against you. And if you don't, they get a default judgment. Just wanted to let you know that.

Is there anything else the lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they'll be able to help with your debt lawsuit.

I don't know.

Hello, I'm Howard, an attorney here to assist you. Can you tell me who is suing you, how much they are suing you for, and where you are located?

Michigan, and about $2,100.

And do you owe the money?

Yes. Kinda wondering if it's too late to ask to settle the amount for a lower payment. Also, my full legal name isn’t on the document. I doubt that matters, but I might as well ask if it does.

Okay, sounds like a plan. I'll give them a call. Thank you.
