Yes, I took my son to the emergency room to have his arm reset. He is 12 years old and now on pain pills.
Was the injury caused by an accident during a school activity or due to negligence on the part of the school?
I believe negligence. There were many kids unattended who jumped a locked fence where others were playing from his class, both 6th and 7th graders. There were no teachers to stop the kids, and there were no teachers for several minutes on site to help my 12-year-old. My son had to yell at other students to get a teacher.
The school is on a split property. To get to the field, the kids must cross a busy downtown street that has limited visibility from the hillside. I believe there was not a correct teacher-to-student ratio. This should never have happened.
I asked why the kids jump the fence; I am told this is normal. Peers were encouraging others and mocking those who didn’t. My son told me he didn’t want to be the “nerd,” and as I mentioned, some boys still mocked my son until teachers came. Students yelled at each other.
I have yet to see an official report to fully understand the complexity.
