The divorce decree is the document signed by the judge that confirms or ratifies your stipulation agreement. That’s the form you should use — you should be able to download it and fill it out using Word or PDF so it’s neatly prepared. It doesn’t need to be handwritten.

I am trying to find a way to draft a divorce decree for an uncontested divorce for the state of South Dakota.

I understand you’re looking to draft a divorce decree for an uncontested divorce in South Dakota. Have you and your spouse already agreed on all the terms of the divorce?

Yes.

Are there any specific details or provisions you would like to include in the divorce decree?

No, we have already filed the stipulation agreement.

Is there anything else the family lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they’ll be able to help with your divorce decree.

Not that I can think of.

Hello! It sounds like you’re well on your way with your uncontested divorce in South Dakota. I’m Attorney/Professor, and I’m here to assist you with any legal questions or concerns you may have.
Where did you get the stipulation form from? The clerk’s office should have provided you the petition and other materials.

The clerk had given me all of the papers that were needed — aside from the divorce decree to give them.

Okay, good. So only the final judgment remains pending?

Correct. The final judgment is all that is left, and they said I need to bring the decree up there on Tuesday. Since it is uncontested, the judge will sign off and it will be final. I just don’t know how to draft this decree to give to the judge.

Have you reviewed the samples they’ve posted on the South Dakota court website?

I have — but they look like something I would handwrite in. For some reason, that doesn’t look like it would be a valid document.
