Of course! Just make sure to sign and date the 14-day notice clearly. After the tenant receives it and the 14 days expire without payment, you’ll go to your local courthouse to fill out and file eviction summons and complaint forms provided by the clerks. (Tenn. Section 66-28-505(2))

I will be doing so today. But I haven’t yet.
Is the rental agreement currently a fixed-term or month-to-month lease?
Last year we allowed him month-to-month, but we clearly stated if renewed, it would become a fixed-term agreement. Also, he’s not answering our calls or texts.

Still have to give the 14-day notice. Unfortunately, you can’t circumvent the legal process, even if “Tenant’s Default” is mentioned in your agreement.
