I'm sorry your grandfather is dealing with this. It's tough when someone wants out of a long marriage but worries about losing what they've built. The good news is that Texas law does give couples options here. Texas divorcing spouses can, for example, agree between themselves on how to divide property rather than leaving it to the court (TX Fam Code § 7.006), which otherwise requires a "just and right" division of the marital estate absent an agreement. (TX Fam Code § 7.001)
