She is not required to notify you, but now that you know, this information can obviously be used to show that perhaps she does not have the level of parental fitness needed to raise the child.

If a parent in Florida with 100% physical custody gets arrested for theft, are they required to tell the other parent (who has 50% legal custody of the child) that they were arrested? If not, why not?

It was my daughter’s mom who got arrested in Florida for theft. I was never informed that she was arrested. I have 50% legal custody, and my daughter’s mom has a history of drug addiction and abandoning my daughter to go get drugs.
There are court-documented cases of her drug abuse and abandoning her daughter. That’s why I wonder if she is supposed to inform me that she was arrested, since my daughter had no legal guardian while her mom was detained.

Okay, thank you. In Florida, that doesn’t matter. As long as the child wasn’t in danger — that’s what they have told me when she abandoned her daughter for days to get drugs. Because my daughter’s mom was with family, Florida said it’s okay.
Sorry — my daughter was with her aunt when she was abandoned for days. And the Florida courts knew about it and still gave her back to her mom.
